Other groups working to stop junk mail
While our free opt-out tool can help you cut down on most of your junk mail, it won't solve the problem entirely--that's why we need a national Do Not Mail Registry.
There are other groups that offer services to help you stop junk mail in the United States and Canada. While there is no legal requirement for junk mailers to fulfill these requests, these groups are effective in getting your requests to the companies cluttering your mailbox.
In the United States:
41pounds.org
is a nonprofit service that stops most common junk mail. For $41, they
guarantee to stop 80 to 95% of junk mail for everyone in your household
for five years. In addition to getting your name off the junk mail
lists of Direct Marketing Association member companies, credit card
offers, coupons and catalogs you specify, 41Pounds.org donates $15 of
your investment to environmental and community groups.
Catalog Choice is a free service that allows you to request what catalogs you receive in your mailbox. Use it to reduce your mailbox clutter while helping the environment.
The Bay Area Recycling Outreach Coalition (Bayroc) is a collaboration of
more than 100 City and County agencies working together on waste reduction
issues in the greater Bay Area. They have been promoting a Stop Junk Mail
campaign since 2005. To learn more and to download a free Stop Junk Mail
kit, visit Stopjunkmail.org.
